GV art Auctions was created as a response to local artists needing better options to sell their works.  As a gallery owner, I was in close contact with many artists daily.  Some artists showed with us for exposure, some for the fun of our gallery’s popular opening receptions, but most for the purpose of selling their artwork to make money.  I have always kept our artists in mind when brainstorming new ways to maximize their experience and profits.  Nearly all of the artists were using eBay, Etsy, or Yessy as a supplement to showing in galleries.  The problem with these sites were that there were membership fees, listing fees, and complicated compounded fees when a piece sold.  What I was interested in creating was a site that offered the same opportunities to the artists, but without all the extraneous fees.  I mean, they were doing this to make money, right?

When you sign up with GVA, there are no membership fees or listing fees.  We want to encourage more artists and art collectors to use our site as a better alternative to these other sites.  We do not have confusing sliding scale commissions or complicated fees according to what you are selling.  It’s just 10% on sold items.  That’s it.  If your piece doesn’t sell, then there’s no money involved. Seems fair, right?

We are actively working on gaining more traffic to better artists’ chances on selling.  As we all know, it takes time for a site to become popular.  For example:  I was checking random page rank statuses this morning.  I found that Facebook is 12 years old. Really.  However, now it is one of the most used sites.  I attribute this to users inviting friends for a fun and free service.  That’s what I hope to do with GV art Auctions.  We are currently developing more social networking features on the site to make it more interesting and user friendly.  We want people to enjoy their experience with us.  And please, if there’s anything we can do/create for the site to make it more appealing to our users, let us know!
